Solved: Pavilion dv7 won't boot

so my HP Pavilion dv7 1003eo laptop refuses to boot. When I power it on, all the light light up and I hear the usual fan noise but the screen remains black. I removed the charger and the battery and pressed the power button a couple of times (and held it for about 30 seconds). Unfortunately that didn't help.
